"Flute Favorite" Music Recital!

Hello everyone! I'm back again to tell you guys all about my experience at the "Flute Favorites" music recital tonight. The recital took place from 8-9pm this evening in the Snyder Recital Hall in Presser Hall on campus. The performance was led by flutist, Dr. Erin Helgeson Torres and pianist, Dr. Stephanie Titus. The recital consisted of many different types of genres including romance, dark and eerie, and upbeat pop. The music they played ranged from many different time periods as well including the mid 1700's all the way up to modern 21st century from different classical musical composers like Bach, Hindemith, and Mouquet. Also, for each piece, Dr. Torres and Dr. Titus used different techniques for us to understand what it was like as a composer back then.

The environment in the recital hall was very welcoming and warm. There were many attendees and we were all amazed at the talent up on the stage. I was very appreciative of how Dr. Torres was able to help us understand the music that she was playing by giving us a little backstory of the composer and the piece before playing. It really helped us be able to experience and understand the music a lot more by the chords she played and the different techniques that were used years ago.

It was difficult for me to decide on a favorite piece. The romantic pieces from Bach and Piazzolla were very peaceful and relaxing. However, the piece from Ian Clarke named "Hypnosis" was very unique and enjoyable. She used a longer and deeper toned flute that involved many different techniques including blowing harder to make a higher pitched noise and hitting the flute to add percussion.

Overall, this experience was very enjoyable and I had fun learning about different styles of flute music and learning all about the classical musical composers that influenced music to this day. I think it is extremely cool how music has evolved over the years. The flute is a world famous instrument that requires a lot of talent to master. I have never been to a flute recital before and I would totally recommend to anyone that is looking to relax and listen to some very soothing music. I have always been impressed with musicians because I understand how much dedication it takes to master an instrument or a voice. It was very fascinating to understand different ways to make sound and compile that sound with a melody that is very harmonious. Dr. Torres and Dr. Titus did a great job with their recital and you all should certainly keep your eyes open for the next recital.
