Social Media Marketing with Facebook
In this blog, I will share some thoughts on the reading of Chapter 4, "Marketing with Facebook". It is common knowledge at this point that the founder of Facebook is Mark Zuckerberg. He was a graduate from Harvard, and he founded Facebook in his dorm room at the University. It took a little while for Facebook to finally become one of the dominant social media platforms that we know today. According to a statistic in the book, "Facebook is the only social media platform to reach more than half (57%) of all internet users". This is a staggering statistic knowing there are other powerhouse social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest. As of January 2023, Facebook has the highest number of monthly users on their platform. Facebook tends to target the middle age demographic with predominantly male audience. To this day, a lot of companies have Facebook accounts to reach their target audiences through advertisements. For a company to have solid ad revenue, Facebook needs to be one of the platforms they are using frequently. Facebook is a great way to connect with new people because monthly there are roughly 2.9 billion users. With that many monthly users, it is easy for companies to reach a broader market of people.
It is crucial that companies understand what kind of content they should be posting on Facebook and when to post it. When companies get it right, they will earn significantly higher engagements including likes, shares, and comments on their content. Another thing is users don't want to spend time reading advertisements for a long time. According to the book, "Studies show that posts with 40 characters receive 86% more engagements than posts with higher characters (Lee)". This goes for a lot of social media platforms nowadays. Nobody wants to read an article about an advertisement for a product. In this day in age, consumers like efficiency. Most of the time, a simple caption can go a long way in gaining a user’s attention to a product. One of the main things is a company needs to stay consistent and positive on Facebook to ultimately gain more users attention. Being inconsistent with posting can cause a dramatic decrease in your consumer base. Overall, there are plenty of ways for companies to gain a consumer’s attention. It is extremely important for a company to stay consistent, authentic, and positive towards their content.
