Marketing with Instagram!
Instagram has revolutionized the social media marketing industry. It was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. With over 2 billion active monthly users, Systrom and Krieger struck gold by starting this platform. According to the book, the US has the second highest platform usage behind India. Instagram targets an audience around the 18-24 year old demographic. With that being said, Instagram targets kids in high school and college. Considering Instagram targets a young demographic, there are many businesses that can take advantage of advertisement opportunities. I can say as a frequent user of Instagram that I have seen my fair share of advertisements from a wide variety of businesses. More businesses have adapted to using Instagram Business which can take their profiles to a new level. With Instagram Business, they can see the analytics behind the content they are posting and use that to their advantage. When I use Instagram, I like to look at the data behind the content I'm posting and the different engagements I receive. For influencers and businesses, this can be a useful tool to help them succeed in the social media marketing world.
Talking about the content that is posted on Instagram, the use of visuals is the front runner. Instagram also offers lot of editing tools and filters that allow people to make their content look presentable to the public. Most Instagram posts are in a square format with a space at the bottom to put a brief caption to let your followers know what you're up to. In the early stages of Instagram, detailed images were the main source of content being posted. However, Instagram has evolved over the years and added many features like video posts and reels. Recently in 2020, Instagram added a shopping feature for businesses to take advantage and post their products on social media to gain user attention. I can say from experience that I have visited the shopping tab on Instagram many times to look for certain products that could be useful in my life. For businesses, it is all about keeping your audience engaged. With that being said, if a business can post consistent content that appeals to their target audience, then Instagram will be a very beneficial platform for them. I follow many businesses myself on Instagram like Nike and Adidas and I have noticed that they do a great job with keeping track of the consistency of the content they are posting. Their main goal is to keep their audience engaged and release advertisements for new products that might appeal to consumers.
Wrapping up this blog, Instagram has developed this platform into a social media marketing powerhouse that is not slowing down.
Nate,
ReplyDeleteYou provided some great insight on this chapter diving into marketing with Instagram. I agree the use of visuals is what makes Instagram so unique. You barely need any words and a photo does the rest with the algorithms on this app. Instagram business does look to be taking over as it continues to improve business demands. Great post!
