Marketing with Pinterest!

In this blog, I will go over the main concepts that go into social media marketing on Pinterest. This social media platform was founded in 2009 by a group of three men named Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. Pinterest itself is a network of new ideas. New ideas are known as a "pin" which can depict an image, video, or source. The cool thing about Pinterest pins, is that users can save different peoples pins to their own profiles. Pinterest is the #15 most popular social media platform with a total of 445 million active monthly users. The social media platform is mostly used by women as 76.2% of the people that use Pinterest are female.

In the marketing aspect, Pinterest is very useful for brands considering there is a wide range of people that use the platform. Pinterest is the perfect place for brands to gain a lot of traffic everyday. It's easier for brands to develop a target audience on Pinterest because there is a ton of traffic everyday and tons of new pins being added everyday that appeal to different target audiences. Pinterest is set up so that there is a home page and a pin board. Similar to Instagram, the home feed shows the different pins of the people that you follow so you can share, and save different pins. Also, the pin board is where all of your personal images, videos, and sources will be for other people to see. Pinterest has many different pin types such as static pins, video pins, rich pins, and collection pins. Each of these options have unique factors that allow a user to pin unique content on their boards. Another key option that Pinterest offers a shopping tool to their users. There are different catalogs available and different advertisements from different businesses to try and build brand loyalty within the platform. According to the book, "People on Pinterest are 66% more likely to be open to new brands while shopping." Due to the fact that there are plenty of businesses that have pinned content on Pinterest, this statistic checks out. Pinterest also has the option for Verified Merchant Programs which allows online shoppers to find products from reputable businesses. Last but not least, the Pinterest algorithm explains that domain quality, pin quality, and the overall rating of the pin are the key factors that go into a Pinterest user.

Overall, for businesses taking a B2C approach, Pinterest is a very crucial social media platform for them. It is a front runner for businesses to be able to promote their products and find brand loyal consumers.
